The special design of this tool puts another adjustment wheel in between the legs as well as one on the outside of the legs. You can have a stop closing and you can have a stop opening. This means if you have a bowl with a rim you can open the outside to pass over the rim while setting the inside to measure the desired bowl wall thickness. Simply squeeze the sides up to the inner stop to use your caliper as feeler on the bowl thickness. Want to set a tenon for your chuck? Easy. Simply set the opening and bring the two stops together to lock in the width – it won't move in or out. No chance of messing up with this great tool.
